Dejavoo: Disable Tips

What's in this article?

Note: If a terminal has a Retail file, tips are captured at the time of sale. If a terminal has a Restaurant file, you can pre-auth and adjust the tip before capture.

  • Enable/Disable receipt Tips on Terminal
  • Enable/Disable Inline Tips (Tip prompt on screen) on Terminal
  • Enable/Disable Inline Tips (Tip prompt on screen) in DVMMs (Retail file)
  • Enable/Disable Receipt Tips in DVMMs (Restaurant files)
  • Receipt tips are auto enabled on Restaurant files. To disable please contact TR about getting the file changed to a retail file 

    When the Inline Tips option is turned on, the terminal will prompt for a tip amount during the transaction. This is necessary for Retail With Tip and Presale Ticket transactions. 

    For Example: Quick Kuts Salon is a retail hair salon merchant that needs to be able to include the tip amount in their credit and debit transactions. He/she enables inline tips so they can fully utilize the Presale Ticket and Retail Tips functionality 

    1. Select Applications

    2. If Prompted, Enter the Password (1234)
    3. Select CREDIT/DEBIT/EBT

    4. Select Set up

    5. Select Inline

    6. Select the desired option
      • To Disable tips select off
      • To Enable tips select on or on percent

    7. The terminal should return to the idle prompt (Home screen)
    1. Log into the Appropriate MMSx account for the reseller
      • Note: Access to MMSx is very limited. Check with a TR if you do not have a login for the partner with whom you are working
    2. Locate the terminal by searching either the TPN or SN of the device

    3. Locate the tip setting you wish to update
      • This is typically located in the second tab
        1. Expand the option under the second tab
        2. Expand the Common Option
    4. If the options are not there you will want to Add the Parameter

      Note: You must have access to the MMSx for the reseller of whom you are attempting to update the file in order to complete this process

      If a parameter is not available in the Add Parameter option you will need to contact the partner to have the parameter option added to the file template

      • Add a Parameter
      • Remove a Parameter
        1. Log into the Appropriate MMSx account for the reseller
          • Note: Access to MMSx is very limited. Check with a TR if you do not have a login for the partner with whom you are working
        2. Locate the terminal by searching either the TPN or SN of the device
        3. Select Add Parameter
        4. Locate the Parameter you wish to add and check its Checkbox
          • Note: The parameter will be located underneath the same option as you would find the parameter inside the file
        5. Click Close

        When removing a parameter from the file, you are really just hiding it. The parameter is always there, it is just not visible. You will not be able to remove all parameters

        1. Log into the Appropriate MMSx account for the reseller
          • Note: Access to MMSx is very limited. Check with a TR if you do not have a login for the partner with whom you are working
        2. Locate the terminal by searching either the TPN or SN of the device
        3. Select Add Parameter
        4. Locate the Parameter you wish to remove and un-check its Checkbox
          1. Note: The parameter will be located underneath the same option as you would find the parameter inside the file.
          2. If you do not see the option or its checkbox, it can not be removed.
        5. Click Close





    5. Locate Tip Mode and set to desired option:
      1. On - Tips will be turned on
      2. On Percent - Will show suggested tip percent (Suggested mode)
      3. Off - tips will be turned off
      4. On Credit - Tips are enabled for credit transactions only
      5. On debit - Tips are enabled for debit transactions only
      6. On Fixed - Will show suggested tip dollar amounts
        • If set to ON and you do not want suggested tips to show please make the options Tip_Suggested_1, Tip_Suggested_2, & Tip_Suggested_3 to be blank and set the Tip_Suggested_Other Option

        • If Set to On Percent please fill in the options Tip_Suggested_1, Tip_Suggested_2, & Tip_Suggested_3 

        • If set to On Fixed please fill in the options for Tip_Suggested_1_Dollar_Amount, Tip_Suggested_2_Dollar_Amount, & Tip_Suggested_3_Dollar_Amount
        On Percent
        On Fixed
    6. Turning on Tip_Suggested_Other allows them to enter a Custom amount
    7. Save the terminal file by clicking Save terminal

    8. Click Save(If prompted)

    9. Preform a partial download

      All Downloads

      • Settle the batch before downloading
        • Failure to close the batch can result in lost transactions 
      • The File must be unlocked before it can be downloaded
      • When creating a File build request:
        • Provide merchant with case #
        • Provide merchant call-back information
        • Let the merchant know that file builds can take 24-48 hours
        • Have the merchant call you back at their Convenience to download the file
      • Once unlocked, the file will remain unlocked for 24 hours  

      STAX Terminals: If a site has STAX and is using FDO processing with Datawire a Full-download will break the Datawire connection, and require re-registration. Please consult a TR before doing a full download.

      1. Close batch on terminal

      2. **If on a QD Terminal** Open the Aura App
      3. From the main screen Navigate press the green OK button to get to the Core Menu
        • If the green OK button does not work try...
          • On Aura non-touch models press F1 for Core
          • On Aura Touch Models tap the 3 lines at the bottom of the screen
      4. Press 4 for Utility
      5. Key in terminal password (1234) and press the green OK button.
      6. Press 2 for Software Download
      7. Press 1 for Connect
      8. On the Connect screen, select the appropriate method
        • 1 for Ethernet
        • 2 for Dial
        • 3 for WiFi
        • 4 for USB
      9. On the Select Type screen, select the type of download
        • 1 for Full
        • 2 for Partial
      10. If the terminals prompts to close batch, select Yes.
      11. On the Enter TPN screen, either confirm the existing TPN# or key in a new number. Press the green OK button to confirm.
      12. If terminal prompts to ""Apply Download?"", select Yes.
      13. If terminal prompts to ""Apply Updates?"", select Yes.
      14. Terminal will now display Connecting with a status bar or percentage. When the download completes, the terminal will boot back to the main screen.

      For Indeflex merchants: Make sure Edit Tip has been added to Favorites menu (for Restaurants using tips) after download

      Common Errors:

      • DOWNLOAD FAILED: Verify network connectivity. If using a phone line or WiFi, try connecting to ethernet.
      • If the download fails when using a Dial connection confirm no other device/phone is using the line and retry at least once
      • Make sure time and date are correct.
      • If the download fails when using a USB drive attempt to plug in the USB drive to a computer and verify the device can be read and there are files on the drive
      • USB requires a Micro USB A Male to USB A Female dongle in order to plug in the thumb drive into the terminal 
      • Rebooting the Terminal with a USB thumb drive plugged in will prompt for download.


      • ""Application Update Failed with Code 2"" - to clear this error follow the steps below:
        1. Clear the credit/debit application.

        2.  Reattempt a Full Download on the TPN.

    If file is Retail File will need to be rebuilt as Restaurant.  Reach out to TR for direction on this.

    Restaurant File will auto enable Tip line of receipt Tip mode does not need to be on as this is during transaction prompt.

    1. Log into the Appropriate MMSx account for the reseller

    2. Locate the terminal by searching either the TPN or SN of the device
    3. Locate the tip setting you wish to update
      • This is typically located in the second tab

    4. Set up Tip Suggestion per Sites request ( 3 max) that will show on the receipt 
      • No Tip Suggestions - Leave the suggested tip options Blank
      • Turn on Tip suggestions- Fill in an amount

        Dollar Amount Suggestions
    5. Turn on Tip_Suggested_Other on
    6. If the options are not there you will want to Add the Parameter
